Moran Family fundraising for Ovarian Research Fund

As many of you will know in 2015, I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. It was life changing year for me and my family. It's a frightening experience firstly being diagnosed and then going through the surgery and treatment afterwards. The five-year survival rate for Ovarian Cancer is currently around 43%....so really frightening.

We have a family jam packed with gorgeous girls, daughters, nieces, sisters, mother, aunties...and we'd like to be part of the solution to improving those survival rates, through awareness of the symptoms and through raising funds for research.

Our family has worked to put together an annual charity auction fundraising event at Rozelle Markets, on the 19th May. The auctioneer for the event is Adam McDonald from Aussie Pickers TV show and Lawson’s Auctioneers. Come along if you can, a great day out for a good cause.

All proceeds of this event are going directly to Ovarian Cancer Research led by the wonderful Associate Professor Caroline Ford at the UNSW Lowy Cancer Research Centre. Current focus areas include the development of an early detection test for ovarian cancer, and the identification of key targets for anti-metastatic therapies in ovarian and endometrial cancer.

Donations of all sizes are welcome and appreciated. Every donation over $2 is tax deductible.

Here is the impact your support can have:

  • $1,000 will fund essential reagents to carry out ovarian cancer experiments in the laboratory.
  • $5,000 will fund laboratory supplies to carry out ovarian cancer experiments.
  • $10,000 will fund essential scientific equipment to carry out experiments.
  • $20,000 will fund a top--up scholarship to attract a bright PhD student to research ovarian cancer.
  • $100,000 will fund a full time researcher for one year to work on these projects.

Dr Caroline Ford, Group Leader at the Gynaecological Cancer Research Group

By supporting the vital research led by Associate Professor Caroline Ford at the Lowy Cancer Research Centre, you can play an important role for women affected by ovarian cancer.

Dr Ford leads the Gynaecological Cancer Research Group, which aims to understand why gynaecological cancers develop, how and why they spread throughout the body, and how best to treat them. “Gynaecological cancer” encompasses all cancers of the female reproductive system, though the current research focuses on ovarian and endometrial cancer. Current focus areas include the development of an early detection test for ovarian cancer, and the identification of key targets for anti-metastatic therapies in ovarian and endometrial cancer.
